TWILIGHT OF LIFE When I look back at you, my life Standing on the last leg of strife All the sorrows endured in the past And the joys relished make march-past Having gone through the stages three Now in this fourth stage, will I be free? Oh! What a relief it would be, to sleep Forever and ever and forever, so deep Wonders and adventures in childhood Made troubles and burdens not so good While old age brought on muscles tight Movement was itself a horrible plight Where did I err, in taking respectful care Of my body, a gift so blessed, and rare Took it for granted, day and night, I did Now will it listen to me and do as I bid? If only I had loved and worshipped it The temple in which the soul must sit Instead, money was what I ran behind Just to be praised, "Oh! You're so kind" Lavished presents and gifts to all around Gloating in the flattery of people bound Forgetting all the time my empty hand Will scatter the relationships like sand Now all alone, exhausted and trembling The wasted time and energy, repenting Wishing for you, my life, to begin anew A second chance to give you your due. I know too well it can't be done Time and tide will wait for none Terribly sorry, I am, for this lapse Forgive me, if possible, for my loss. π£π£π£π£π£π£π£π£π£π£π£π£π£π£. π»π»π»π»π»π»π»π»π»π»π»π»π»π»
